Forma Sostanza Differenza. Brevi cenni di “epistemologia batesoniana”

The article focuses on some key-concepts of Gregory Bateson's thought. Among philosopher there has always been a sort of dichotomy between the concepts of “form” and “substance” since ancient Greece; concerning this topic, Gregory Bateson (influenced by his studies on biology, communication and by the birth of Cybernetics) presents what - in his opinion - is the only possible statement able to describe reality: the map is not the territory.The article, then, attempts to define what for Gregory Bateson is considered as an “eco-mental system” and, finally, discusses about its ethics implications.Il contributo presenta alcuni concetti-chiave del pensiero di Gregory Bateson. Partendo dalla diatriba filosofica tra “forma” e “sostanza” che ha caratterizzato i dibattiti sin dai tempi antichi, si giunge a quella che, per Bateson, è l'unica formula possibile per descrivere la realtà (influenzata dagli studi sulla biologia, la comunicazione e la nascita della Cibernetica), riassumibile nella fortunata espressione “la mappa non è il territorio”. Da qui si cerca di definire la concezione batesoniana di “sistema eco-mentale” e si delineano alcune implicazioni di tipo etico e morale
